How To Use This Site

The Pike County ILGenWeb site is now managed by a script which allows site visitors to make better use of their research time by being an interactive database.

All resources for Pike County Illinois can be found in categories and subcategories. If you are looking for a cemetery listing, click on 'Cemetery Records' then go to the proper township and cemetery to see if there is a listing. To find others who are researching the same surname in Pike County Illinois, click on 'Surnames, Family Group Sheets, Etc.', then follow the proper categories to find the surname. Click on any of the articles in the category to see the complete details.


How to Contact Another Researcher

To contact another researcher, on the actual article page under the title of the article is a byline. Click on the username next to 'By' and this will take you to the researchers page. From the researchers page, depending on which options they have elected for contact, you can send them an email, private message or contact them through an instant message service.

If there are no contact options, then the user has either turned off the options or has an invalid email address registered with the site, therefore no contact can be made.

To know which of these has occurred, look on the profile page, under 'Membership Status' and there is a line that begins with 'Usergroup'. If their usergroup is 'Member' then the researcher has turned off their contact options. If their usergroup is 'Invalid_Email', then the researcher has not updated their email address with the site and we have no way to contact them.

Note: To contact another researcher, you need to register with the site and be logged in.


How to receive notification of new items.

There are several different ways you can keep up-to-date of new items added to the site.

1. If you have a user account, you can select in your profile to receive email notification of all new articles added to the site. This option comes with the following disclaimer: "Use this feature wisely. If 50 new articles are added in a single day, you will receive 50 emails. 100 articles, 100 emails, etc. Don't select 'Yes' then complain that you are receiving too many emails, simply log into your account and change it to 'No' and they will stop."

2. If you have a user account, you can 'Subscribe to category' by clicking on the subscription link on the category page. You will then receive email notification of all new articles added to that category and any subcategories related to it. See the disclaimer on option 1 as the same applies. If 50 articles are added to the same category in a single day, you will receive 50 emails. To unsubscribe from a specific category, login to your account and either go to the category and click 'Unsubscribe from category' or go to 'Options' -> 'Manage Subscriptions' and unsubscribe from there.

3. If you have a user account, enter keywords in your profile and you will only receive notification if a new article on the site contains that keyword.

4. For those that use RSS, you can subscribe to the RSS feed. Follow the instructions for your specific reader to subscribe.

5. Or, you can just stop by the site for a visit every once in a while. If you have a user account, you can login and click on 'New Articles' and it will list the articles that have been added to the site since the last time you logged in.
