Newspaper Article: Died at New Canton, on Sunday morning, January 31 [1875], Mr. James McFarland, aged 62 years. The deceased, father of Mr. Jos. McFarland, late sheriff, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, July 2d, 1814, and came to this country about the year 1844, settling in Boston at that time, but subsequently, about the year 1854, removing to Pike County, Illinois, where he made his home and resided until his death. The disease which effected his death was lung fever, and at the time of his decease, his wife was suffering from the same complaint to such an extent that she was unable to visit his bedside at the time of his death. He was a worthy citizen, father and friend, and left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.
