Quincy Daily Whig, June 16, 1882, Page 8

The Late Mrs. Bassett.

It again becomes our duty to note the death of one of Quincy’s oldest residents, and this time Mrs. Bassett, wife of Dr. M. F. Bassett, who died after a very short illness at 1:30 A. M. Thursday, June 15, at the age of 59. Mrs. Bassett, until within a short time before her death, owing to her uncomplaining disposition, had been thought by many of her friends to be in perfect health, but such was not the case, for disease had been preying upon her for some years past, and when it did at last gain the mastery, the announcement owas a shock to her many friends. Deceased was a zealous worker in behalf of all charitable objects and institutions, and during her twenty-five years’ sojourn in this city her numerous friends can testify to her unselfish devotion to all that is good.

Mrs. Marie Jeannette Bassett was a native of Falmouth, Mass., and was married to Dr. Bassett thirty years ago, coming west with him in 1854, residing in Quincy since that time. Deceased was the mother of Calot E. and Dr. D. Byran Baker, of this city. A woman of broad mind, charitable and kindly in her relations to all. She will be missed sadly by many.

The funeral takes place Friday at 2 P. M., from the late residence, Tenth and Vermont streets. Private burial later.
