By John Ruskamp - jruskamp@kiwi.dep.an1.gov

I descend from a number of early Quincy families. Among the family names are Hubbard, Hartley, and Ruskamp. F. William Ruskamp and his family came to Quincy in the 1850's. He was born in Bielefeldt, Germany in 1829 and died in Quincy in 1895. He, his wife, and several of his children are buried in Woodland Cemetery. His son John Henry Ruskamp, who was born in Quincy, built and lived in the house at 1013 Ohio Street.

Sherman Hubbard came to Quincy, from Ashtabula, Ohio in the 1830's and operated the first steam powered sawmill on the Mississippi. I have "registered" this family line with the Illinois Genealogical Society. Sherman is also buried in Woodland Cemetery, Lot 65, Block 2 N1/2, along with some of his Ruskamp grandchildren. This Hubbard line goes back to Peter Bulkeley who founded Concord, Massachusetts and ... from Peter Bulkeley back to King Edward I of England.
